Something Wicked: Chapter 1 PREVIEW

Blue. Of course I got blue. What was the point in even hoping that I would get anything besides blue? My shoulders slumped as I saw the color on the slip of paper. I looked up to find Iri smiling smugly at me. I plastered on a straight face to keep from glaring and/or attacking her face.

"Didn't get the group you want, Quinny?" She said, with the victory of the world in her voice. I winced. I hate when people take my real name, Quinette, and morph it into something stupid. There are few exceptions. My family, and my best friend, Nevaeh, have permission to call me Quinn, but that's it.

I could see the sense of triumph in her emerald green eyes. It always makes Iri's day when my day is destroyed, and my dignity. I'm not sure why she hates me so much. I rarely see her at my school, Luxor Valley High School. She's a Senior so I'm in none of her classes, me being a Sophomore, but for some reason I'm her enemy. When I first met her, she kept glaring at me. I haven't even said two words to her, but she hated me, and still does.

I wasn't going to let Iri beat me down, so I said, "No, I'm content with it." Iri's smile dropped, bringing my smile higher, "Besides, I'll get to know-"

I looked to my right to see all my other blue group comrades.
Ugh. Them. Why them? The Mleeks? I hate labels, but to refer to this group, I use Mleeks. The Mleeks are a group of people who are probably the smartest people ever. They aren't the stupid stereotype kind of smart person. Some of them have glasses and braces, but honestly, who doesn't at this age? Anyway, along with their smartness, they are probably the meanest. They have this class system which groups you depending on your GPA. If it worked like it does in this government, I'd be in the middle class, but it doesn't. If you have 4.0, you're at the top, but if you have anything lower, you'll be at the bottom; There is no middle class. They go around parading in their posse, harassing people; They call people names, beat people up, etc. That's why people call them Mleeks; They are mean, and extremely smart. They usually keep to themselves though. They aren't on the Smart People team, or whatever it's called, even though they would definitely win Nationals. Some people say that they are secretly planing a conspiracy, but its just a theory.

I turned towards Iri, to find her beaming. I was trying so hard not to crack. I said, "Was that really necessary? You know they'll harass me if I bother them."

She smiled wider, "I just thought you needed more friends to get to know, considering you have close to none."

I balled up my fists. I'd so violently destroy her, but she's hiding behind the title of, "Student Body President" so she's untouchable. She started giggling, her bouncy red curls bounded every time she huffed.

I knew she put me in blue on purpose. She wants me to suffer. She could've at least put Nevaeh with me, but she put her as far away as possible, so there would be no way of stowing away together on this field trip.

I was watching Iri giggle, imagining her choke on her saliva many times. Wow, I'm a violent person, aren't I? But my best friend, Nevaeh is even worse. Soon, she appeared beside me, getting her group color.

"Nev!" I exclaimed. She turned her head to the right, and then smiled.
"Quinn!" We half hugged. "Where were you? I lost you when we got off the bus!" she asked, after she swatted my arm.

"I told you! I said I was going to get my group color, you said okay, but you never followed me. I couldn't find you!" I answered.
She made a thinking face, and then an "ohhhhh" face. I nodded at her. At the corner of my eye, I saw Iri looking strangely at us.

"Well if it isn't the diabolical duo." she said. Nev and I both rolled our eyes.

 "Just give me my color."
Iri handed Nev a folded slip of paper. She unfolded it, glanced at it, and then looked at me, "What's yours?"

 I muttered softly, "Blue."

Nev rolled her eyes and then said, "Of course you did. I got red." Of course Nev got red. The farthest group from blue.

Nev glanced at Iri, "Was that really necessary?" she asked.

"Of course it was," Iri said. "You freaks deserve it."

Nev was literally turning from her olive colored skin, to red. She turned to me, as if she were asking permission, but I shook my head. If Nev lashed out on Iri, it'd make an entire community happy, but Nev would be endless amounts of trouble afterwards.

Iri looked at Nev funny, "What's wrong with you? Other than everything else." I snatched Nev's arm after Iri said that snide remark. It felt like trying to hold back the negative side of a magnet, from the positive one.

"Nothing," I started, struggling, "She's just really- tired."

"Ugh, she looks worse than that," Iri snickered, "She looks like a frazzled, she-man ape." That was the last nerve. Nev pounced, and almost took Iri to the ground, but I jumped in front, and held her back. Iri looked disgusted.

"Yeah, you would know what a she-man ape looks like right before you do your makeup!!" Nev shrieked.
Hahahaha... we're dead. Nev's mouth was like a fountain of nasty insults. She wouldn't stop, and what she said, could easily land us in suspension.

Actually I was trying my hardest to keep from laughing. The look on Iri's face was priceless, but that look might change when we are murdered by the student council, and the school board.

"-and another thing: You-" I slapped my hand on Nev's mouth, and kept it there. I could hear her muffled sounds from behind my palm.

"Listen- Iri," I struggled with Nev as I tried to mend what happened, "She's been going through a- rough time, and you can- understand her- situation. You know, mood- swings and it's- that time- of month for her. Just ignore it. You know, she doesn't- mean-it."

Iri eyed me with deep thought, also with horror. This whole time, Nev was struggling with my grasp; she was licking my palm and pulling my dirty blond hair.
Iri then sighed "Okay, this one time. Just because it's a field trip. One more slip up-" Iri then made the 'slit-the-throat' gesture. "Now get in your groups!"

I dragged Nev to the back of the mass of students. I let her go, but then the fireworks went off, "Why didn't you let me go?! I could have taken- no- I could have DESTROYED her!! I would've made so many people happy!! Do you know how many-"

I slapped my hand on her face again. She was in a frenzy, muffled against my hand. "I know you could have! I wanted to see it! But we would have been murdered. If I hadn't talked Iri out of it, she would've babbled." I explained.

Nev's caramel eyes were on fire, but they softened after I explained. I let her go, and she calmed down. "I know, I just hate her stupid face!"
She stomped the ground with her baby blue converse, and her waist length brown hair swishing everywhere. It's funny- Nev wears the sweet-girl-next-door-with-lots-of-floral-skirts-and-belts style, and yet her personality is feisty and short tempered.

"Well, I hate her everything," I said, "But you have to control your temper. Luckily, I was there to stop you from ripping Iri's face off."

Nev rolled her eyes and muttered, "Yeah, yeah. You could've at least let me rip her mouth off; that way, she can't speak or smile that heinous smile ever again."

I put my right forefinger and thumb on my chin, and stroked it. I made a thoughtful noise and said, "Hmmm...Maybe next time."

Nev started fumbling through her handbag while saying, "You sure that there will be a next time?" Nev then brought out a permission slip. I decided to do the same.
I laughed in response, and said, "I can assure you," I slung my backpack to my right and unzipped the front pocket, and pulled out a folded piece of paper, "There will be a next time."

"Ugh. You know me so well," Nev flipped her hair from her shoulder.

"Well, you are my soul twin."

Nev and I have been best friends since Lord knows when; We are a best friend match made in Heaven. We are sisters, even though we look absolutely nothing alike. Nev is a Hawaiian beauty with shiny, long, chocolate hair with golden eyes. She isn't too skinny; she has lovely curves which I am jealous of. However, I am a thin, pale, tall, girl next door with teal colored eyes and a little past shoulder length, dirty blond hair. I easily pass 5'8. Nev is barely 5'7, and she was tall compared to all the other sophomore girls. I felt like a giant compared to them. Nev says it's good to be tall so I won't have to stand on my toes to kiss a guy. I knew that would probably never happen, me kissing a guy, but that's why I love Nev.
We can read each other like a book. It's like we have telepathy. We know each other like the back of our hands, and sometimes it seems Nev knows more about me than I do.

I looked to my left to find the students of LVHS spreading to form in a line. I looked around for blue, and when I found the group, I groaned. Nev looked at me and said, "How could she do that? That's like sending you to your death!"

"She can do that because one: She is SBP; she can do whatever she wants, and two: She is a female dog in the language of French," I stated angrily.

Nev heaved an anxious sigh. She grabbed my shoulders and said, "I'll pray for you."

"I need more than prayers," I said.

We hugged, and then we went our separate ways.

Ugh!!! I'm sooo sorry I haven't updated in so long. I've been lazy about my writing, but I have an idea I really want to use, but I have to write this exposition, before it gets good. I know it's not finished but I really wanted to get something posted, so I put this up. This is only a fraction of the whole chapter. I just want to you guys to get a feel for some of the main characters, and your input.

Thank you!!! <3  ^_^
